This is a vacancy announcement for multiple Experienced Trial Attorney positions with the DOJ's Criminal Division, in the Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section.

The Narcotic and Dangerous Drug Section (NDDS) supervises and has responsibility for enforcing federal statutes pertaining to narco-terrorism, narcotic drugs and other controlled substances. The section advises the Assistant Attorney General, Criminal Division, Department of Justice and other federal officials involved in drug enforcement on all matters related to federal narcotics and narco-terrorism law enforcement including proposed and enacted legislation, policy, enforcement initiatives, and criminal and civil litigation. The section has direct litigation responsibilities in significant drug and narco-terrorism investigation and prosecutions targeting national and international narcotics trafficking and money laundering organizations.

OPENING: Trial Attorney, DOJ Civil Rights Division, Voting Section

This is a vacancy announcement for the position of Trial Attorney for the DOJ's Civil Rights Division, in the Voting Section. The Civil Rights Division is seeking up to three experienced attorneys for the position.

The Civil Rights Division is primarily responsible for enforcing federal statutes and executive orders that prohibit, among other things, unlawful discrimination in voting, education, employment, housing, police services, public accommodations and facilities, and federally funded and conducted programs. The Voting Section enforces federal statutes designed to safeguard the right to vote. These statutes include the Voting Rights Act; the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act; the National Voter Registration Act; and the Help America Vote Act. Applications are being accepted from March 7, 2012 through 11:59 PM, March 28, 2012.

Symposium on Human Trafficking

On April 12 and 13, the US Attorneys Office, the FBI, and Yale Law School are sponsoring Trade of Innocents: A Global Perspective on Human Trafficking.

The symposium will feature a series of panels about the efforts of law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations to detect, investigate, and prosecute domestic and international human trafficking. The symposium will also feature a panel discussion about the making of the new film, Trade of Innocents, which stars Dermot Mulroney and Academy Award winner Mira Sorvino. Deputy Attorney General James Cole will be giving opening remarks on April 12.

YLD Diversity Scholarship

The Philadelphia Bar Association Young Lawyers Division annually awards scholarships of no less than $500 each to five (5) law students of diverse backgrounds who desire to practice law in Philadelphia following their law school graduation. The YLD Diversity Scholarship Selection Committee encourages organizations to nominate up to three (3) law students for the scholarships.

The following criteria will be considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee:

a) Academic achievement;
b) Demonstrated commitment to community service and bar association involvement;
c) Financial need;
d) Minority status; and
e) Connection to and/or anticipation of practicing law in the Philadelphia area.

Organizations, please submit the following for each candidate:

a) a brief statement of support from your association (not to exceed 200 words for each candidate);
b) the candidate's resume;
c) a copy of his or her transcript; and
d) a personal essay (not to exceed 850 words) written specifically for the YLD Scholarship, which addresses the criteria set forth above, explains how the candidate intends to incorporate bar association involvement into his or her professional career, and has specific emphasis on future YLD involvement. Submissions prepared for other scholarships will not be considered.

For the past four years, Widener APALSA's Networking Night has had great success. Attorneys like you have been a big part of this program's success by volunteering to be a Mentor to our law students.

Through this Mentoring Program, Asian-American leaders in the law community provide guidance and advice to Widener APALSA student members. It is a unique program where APALSA members seeking mentors are matched with an attorney who volunteers to be a mentor. We introduce the attorney (mentor) to the student (mentee) at our Annual Networking Event. This is a great opportunity for law students to foster a relationship with an attorney that will be productive and meaningful for both the student and the Mentor. This final session will be essential for attorneys who are interested in learning about the latest development in the new zoning code anticipated to be adopted imminently by Philadelphia's City Council. The registration fee for this session is $15 for minority bar association members.

This is a Basic Course Designed for:

The New Practitioner who would like to practice real estate law but desires preparation beyond that provided in a typical law school curriculum
The General Practitioner who would like to learn the nuts and bolts of real estate law
The Long-Time Specialist who has specialized in another area but would like to transition into real estate practice.

Accreditation has been requested for this program in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York for 9.0 hours of substantive law, practice and procedure CLE credit and 1.5 hours of ethics, professionalism or substance abuse CLE credit.
